What’s the proper way to handle and hold a Légère reed?Updated 2 months ago

Always handle your reed by the thicker heel (the end that goes under the ligature) rather than the thin tip. The tip of a Légère reed, while durable, is still delicate – avoid touching or flicking it to prevent any damage.

When assembling your instrument, secure the reed on the mouthpiece before putting on the ligature, and do so over a flat, stable surface (so if you accidentally drop the reed, you won’t step on it or chip it on a hard edge). Treat the reed tip with the same care you would a fine cane reed – although Légère reeds are more resilient (they won’t easily chip or crack like cane), careful handling will ensure you don’t accidentally deform the tip.
