How long will a Légère reed last?Updated 2 months ago

This can vary depending on how often and how intensely you play, but many players (especially students) get months of use out of a single Légère reed. For typical practicing and performances, a Légère reed’s lifespan is often 4–8 weeks or more of consistent play. Some professionals report using one reed for an entire concert season. Importantly, Légère reeds do not “die” suddenly like some cane reeds; instead, you might notice a gradual decline in responsiveness when it’s time to retire the reed. With good care and rotation, you could be playing on the same Légère reed for a very long time. It’s a good practice to have at least 2 reeds to alternate – this gives each reed some rest and can further extend their life. (See the Reed Care & Maintenance section for tips on rotation and care.)
