How do I care for my Légère reed during playing sessions?Updated 2 months ago

One of the benefits of Légère reeds is that they don’t dry out, so you don’t need to keep them wet. If you’re playing an extended gig or rehearsal (over an hour of continuous playing), it’s a good idea to rotate between two reeds if possible. For example, after about 60 minutes of play, you might swap to another reed to let the first one “rest.”

This isn’t because the reed dries (it doesn’t), but rotating helps extend the life of the reed by not overplaying one for too long in a single stretch. When you take a short break, you can leave the reed on the mouthpiece (unlike cane, it won’t warp from drying). However, avoid leaving the reed on the mouthpiece for very long periods when not in use, as accidental bumps could damage the tip.
