Do Légère reeds need special cleaning?Updated 2 months ago

Légère reeds are low maintenance, but a little cleaning now and then can be helpful, especially if residue builds up. You can periodically clean your reed with plain water and mild dish soap.

Gently rub the reed with your fingers under running lukewarm water to remove saliva deposits. If needed, use a soft toothbrush to very lightly scrub the top (vamp) of the reed – but be extremely gentle around the tip. Avoid hot water or chemicals/alcohol, as these could affect the material. After washing, rinse thoroughly and pat the reed dry with a lint-free cloth. Regular cleaning (maybe once every few weeks or as needed) will keep the reed hygienic and free of any buildup that could affect vibration.

Because Légère reeds are non-porous polypropylene, they don’t host bacteria like cane can. This makes them inherently more hygienic. Cleaning is mostly about removing residue to keep the reed performing its best.
